22nd National Competition of Ship Modelers has been held in the educational-exhibit space of CTC Rijeka, on Sunday, 7th of May 2017, according to the national rules. In the same space, Croatian evaluation exhibition of model ships „Rijeka 2017“ has been formally opened, where certificates and medals were awarded to the competitors.
The jury, made of Miroslav Fabijanić (main judge), Branko Vekarić and Krešimir Šurina, had been estimating 13 ship models from three categories – sailing ship models and galleys (HR-A), motor drive models (HR-B) and models of ships in a bottle (HR-E). Each judge could give maximum of 100 points, and arithmetic mean determined the final evaluation and the placement of ships.
Roland Vlahović won the silver medal for the cruiser ship model Marin Držić (89,00 points). Silver medal went to Mladen Mitić in Dubrovnik, that has been again dedicated to the maritime heritage of Dubrovnik – in the competition he participated with karaka of Dubrovnik, that won 81 points. Nine models won from 70 to 79,67 points, that brought bronze medals to their authors.
Every year Croatian Association of Ship Modelers and Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka organize National competition, and the rules for assessing the skill value of ship modelers vary each year – if the year is even, it means that the competition will be held according to NAVIGA rules, and if the year is odd, according to the national rules. The main difference is that in the national competitions that are organized according to the national rules, only the models of traditional Croatian ships and boats can be assessed.
From Tuesday, 9th of May, Croatian evaluation exhibition of model ships „Rijeka 2017“ has been opened, where besides the models of the competitors from this year's national competition, the works of primary school pupils that participated in School of ship modelling by Modelling Institute Nave Dumins, models of students of Technical school for engineering and shipbuilding under mentorship of professor Marija Marač, and works of the children from kindergartens of Rijeka and Kastav, have all been displayed at the exhibition.
With In memoriam showcase, the organizers gave honor to four ship modelers – Bogoljub Dokmanović, whose ships in a bottle keep on amazing the audience, Toni Miknić, devotee of the maritime heritage of the island of Rab, world and national competitions' award-winning modeler Josip Rumora, and Krunoslav Srijemsija, whose favorite hobby was ship modelling.
The entrance to the exhibition is free for the public. The exhibition will be opened on work days from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Saturday, the 13th of May, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. On Sunday, the 14th of May, the exhibition will be closed. The visitors of the exhibition can vote for their favorite ship model by playing tombola and therefore choose the best model. Award of the public will be announced on Friday, 19th of May 2017, at 1 p.m., following the closing of the exhibition.
This year's manifestation is also financially supported by the City of Rijeka, Primorje-Gorski kotar county, and Croatian Association of Technical Culture, as well as sponsored by the President of Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
